The Story Behind My Cute Chope Stand Design
If you’re from Singapore, you’ll be familiar with the iconic "chope" culture – where we reserve tables by placing a packet of tissue on the table. It’s a part of our life, and I thought, why not add a touch of personality to it? So, I set out to create a design that blends practicality with something fun and cute.
Inspiration Strikes: The Tissue Pack Idea
The idea for my chope stand came from the ever-reliable tissue packet. It’s a simple, practical item, but as an artist, I wanted to make something more than just functional – I wanted it to be a statement piece! I thought: how can I reimagine this symbol in a way that would make people smile?
Adding the Cute Factor
Of course, it couldn’t just be a regular tissue pack design. I wanted something that reflects the playful, fun-loving spirit of my brand. I took the iconic item and transformed it into something cute. It’s compact, easy to hang around, and undeniably eye-catching – the perfect mix of form and function.
Why a Chope Stand?
It’s always been about creating things that resonate with daily life, but with a twist. Just like my stickers, I want people to express themselves through their everyday items. Aside from reserving your table at Kopitiams, food court or hawker, I gave it a second function – it also works as a memo clip! Creating the chope stand has been one of my favorite projects because it allowed me to take a beloved local practice and give it a fresh, fun spin. It’s these little moments – reserving a table for your favorite laksa or chicken rice – that make everyday life special, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that.
